ExtenZe Racing Team Ready for Hometown Showdown; Home Track Brings Familiarity for Conway
Statesville, N.C. (May 18, 2010) - Kevin Conway and the ExtenZe Racing team begin a two-week homestand in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as they prepare for this weekend's Sprint Showdown at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway (CMS). The leading Cup Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender will participate with Front Row Motorsports' No. 37 Ford team in Saturday night's opening event, in which teams race for the final two starting positions in the Sprint All-Star Race later that evening.
Conway brings some experience to the 1.5-mile oval, having competed at CMS in both the NASCAR Nationwide Series (2009 - started 32nd and finished 24th) and the ARCA Series (2002 - started 23rd and finished 7th.) He enters the weekend coming off his 11th consecutive Rookie of the Race award after finishing 33rd at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Sunday and now leads the rookie race by 84 points (127-37.)
NASCAR's All-Star weekend is followed by the Coca-Cola 600 at the speedway on May 30.
ExtenZe Racing Driver Kevin Conway Comments on Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Sprint Showdown:
"Charlotte Motor Speedway is one of the tracks I have the most laps at both from running ARCA races there, Nationwide cars there and also back to the quarter-mile track there having won track championships in the legends car series, won National Championships in the legend car series. So Charlotte Motor Speedway is definitely my home track and one of the places we look forward to the most.
"The Showdown is going to be a cool race. It's not a points race, it's just everybody going for broke trying to get into the All-Star race. This will by my first time driving in the Showdown, but I know that it can get crazy.
"Everybody just wants to push to the front. There are different kinds of strategies that come into play to try to make sure you're in the running when it gets to the final laps. It's always entertaining and always a good show for the fans.
"We had a tough break last week at Dover with an ignition issue that sent us to the garage for a short time, but the ExtenZe Racing team worked hard to get us back out on the track and get in some valuable laps. We've had a few challenges like that thrown at us this year but I'm proud of the way our team has responded. We're meeting goals, getting more competitive and learning a lot."
