JIMMIE JOHNSON , NO. 48 LOWE'S/POWER OF PRIDE MONTE CARLO SS, QUALIFIED SECOND:

"Last year we qualified second and won the All-Star event so hopefully that will be an omen for us this year as well. The guys had a good Pit Stop Challenge Wednesday night and were happy with where they ended up and wanted to put up a good effort tonight and they did."

ON A RIVALRY BETWEEN NO. 17 PIT CREW AND HIS PIT CREW: "I believe there is a rivalry but it is more of a respect than anything. We knew when the No. 17 was on track, we knew he is tough to beat, those guys are going to be strong and they are really going to put in a good effort. I have that kind of respect for Matt (Kenseth) and his team each and every week, both in the pits and on the race track, they are a very very solid race team in every aspect and I think their record reflects that."

ON CHAD KNAUS DRIVING CREW CHIEF RACE TOMORROW NIGHT: "He is excited and I know all the crew chiefs are. All the stories I have heard about their practice last night from Chad, Steve (Letarte, No. 24 crew chief), Alan (Gustafson, No. 5 crew chief) and Darian (Grubb, No. 25, crew chief) all laughing and talking together about it were pretty funny. They really had fun. They never get a chance to interact like that without the pressure of the intense look in their eyes of trying to beat each other. They will have a lot of fun.

"I hope I can get a radio because for the last six years I have heard Chad Knaus yell at me 'Don't overdrive the entry', 'Don't get the brakes too hot', and on and on and on. So if I can get a radio hooked up or find one that works somehow, I am just going to complain to him the whole time and wear him out. I hope I can get that done."

ON THOUGHT OF HAVING QUALIFYING WITH THIS FORMAT FOR EVERY RACE: "It is a great aspect for our sport but to pull it off would be very difficult. A lot of the team members are not there as part of the early crew. It would change the dynamic and bring much more expense to the sport, and right now in this present state, we are trying to cut costs. I just don't think it would take place. It is a fun format, we all enjoy doing it, but I am not sure we would want it every week."
