AJ Allmendinger Gets Local
Charlotte, NC 19 May, 2010-With his next two consecutive "home" race weekends, AJ Allmendinger is relishing the chance to be involved in his local community.
Even though he has a busy few weeks ahead of him, AJ was able to kick things off Tuesday afternoon by making an appearance at the Morrison (NC) YMCA to meet with over 100 youths to talk about following your dreams, and describing the perseverance that it takes to actually accomplish them.
The group, an after-school gathering that is part of the comprehensive scope of programs that Best Buy undertakes with the "@15" initiative, was comprised of young kids and teens. Also on hand to talk about following your dreams were the director as well as the young stars of the award-winning "Racing Dreams" film, which is slated for a national debut this Friday.
Best Buy's @15 mission is an exciting evolution of Best Buy's established Foundation and corporate giving programs, which have provided more than $200 million over the past decade. @15 is a style of philanthropy that focuses, not on issues or trends, but on people important to our business and society. @15 listens to what teens have to say about the world, give voice to their perspectives, and invest Best Buy's resources, at their direction, to support teen efforts to lead social change and help provide even greater opportunities for teens.
"This is the kind of trip that I really enjoy, and getting the chance to talk to these kids is very rewarding for me," said AJ. "Hopefully, my story inspires something positive for some of these guys and pushes them to stay focused on accomplishing what they really want out of life. I feel lucky not only that my hard work helped me achieve my dream of racing every Sunday, but I'm also lucky to be working with a company like Best Buy that has this kind of scope and community involvement. This is a great thing to be involved with outside of what we do every weekend at the track with Best Buy."
