Thomson Takes B.C. Dodge Dealers Dodge Avenger 300 Bud Pole Award

VERNON, B.C. (July 14, 2007) -- Don Thomson Jr. dove to the inside of the track to complete his second qualifying lap for a time of 18.299 seconds on the 1/2-mile tri-oval at Sunvalley Speedway in Vernon, B.C. which translates to an average lap speed of 98.366 mph. He will start on the pole for tomorrow evening's main event.

The strategy as qualifying progressed was to dive to the far inside of the track coming out of turn four in an effort to shave off those precious ticks on the clock. It worked to perfection for Thomson, who took the cue from teammate J.R. Fitzpatrick after he executed the strategy to set fast time just two cars ahead of Thomson.

Thomson, who hails from Ayr, Ontario, will lead the field to start the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio event tomorrow evening. He was among the fastest cars in the two earlier practice sessions, as well, in his No. 4 Home Hardware Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It is his first Bud Pole of the season. So far in four races this season, the Canadian Tire Series has had four different Bud Pole winners.

J.R. Fitzpatrick turned the second-quickest time by navigating the track in 13.474 seconds (97.434 mph) and will start alongside his teammate on the front row. The third fastest time was recorded by D.J. Kennington with a time of 18.487 seconds (97.366 mph).

"I really wasn't all that surprised with the time," said Thomson of his qualifying effort. "We had a good second practice session and the car felt good."

Track position is always a factor in short track racing and Thomson will look to use his advantage to become the first two-time race winner in the Canadian Tire Series. He also won the series' inaugural event on May 26 at Cayuga Speedway Park.

The British Columbia Dodge Dealers Dodge Avenger 300 is scheduled to take the green flag Sunday evening at 7:05 p.m. PT.
