DILLEY SECOND QUICKEST IN QUALIFYING
Rear End Gear Problem Puts Dilley Down Laps
St. Eustache, QC, Monday July 7, 2008: Mark Dilley driver of the No. 9 Dodge/Leland Industries/Maple Lodge Farms Dodge Avenger started the Kodak 250 on Saturday night from outside front row position. Unfortunately a rear end gear problem cost them several laps in the pits making repairs.
Dilley quickly went to the top of the speed charts during Saturday afternoons practice session and was just shy of taking the pole starting position which was eventually won by No. 4 Don Thomson Jr.
The No. 9 Dodge Avenger would run in second or the first part of the race to leader Thomson and while falling back a few positions prior to pit stops, Dilley was satisfied with the car and the setup. One quick pit stop for two right side tires and gas and then another stop for left side tires allowed them to maintain good track position as they would line up tenth for the run to the finish. Dilley continued to move forward and prior to the gear problem had run as high as fourth. The team worked furiously to get it fixed and get Dilley back on the track. At the checkered flag the No. 9 Dodge would be several laps down and have a 21st place overall finish. "To say I am disappointed would be an understatement," said Dilley after the race. "The way we practiced and qualified I expected a podium for sure."
Race winner Scott Steckly has posted his third win of the season and his fourth oval track win in a row followed by No. 17 D. J. Kennington and No. 02 Kerry Micks. Andrew Ranger and J. R. Fitzpatrick rounded out the top five.
Dilley and his No. 9 Dodge/Leland team are now gearing up for their two race Western swing with event one at the great racing facility of Sun Valley Speedway in Vernon B.C. on July 18th. Then on to Edmonton for the Rexall Indy event with the IRL teams on July 25/26th.
