Monday May 22, 2000: Hamilton area native Dave Jacombs in the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus set fast time for the first event on the CASCAR Castrol Super Series Tour, the Mopar 250 at Delaware Speedway Park on Sunday May 21st. Jacombs not only set fast time with a blistering 19.343 but also bested the next competitor by over a tenth of a second. This is a new track record and beats the previous record set by Ron Beauchamp Jr in May 1999.

An elated Jacombs said after the timed session “I always knew we could do this, it just took the added commitment of Speedy Auto Service this year and the continued hard work and dedication of the Jacombs Racing crew. The preparation of the car by Whitlock Motorsports has also been a bonus and working with veteran crew chief Tim Ellas has been an outstanding addition to our team - we have just hit it off so well as evidenced by today’s results.”

Jacombs started the Mopar 250 on Sunday from the front row - his first ever pole position for a CASCAR event. Jacombs dropped back to third early in the event, saving the tires and waiting for the right times to make his move to the front. The Speedy/Raybestos Taurus pitted around the 100-lap mark for tires and fuel and started their march toward the front again. On Lap 154 Jacombs regained the lead where he stayed until the #35 Taurus of Kevin Dowler took over the point on lap 181. During the final 75 laps Jacombs battled with several other competitors and wound up finishing a strong fifth on the day.

An elated Jacombs said after the race “We had a strong car all day and were able to run at the front whenever we wanted to but our tires just weren’t quite right at the end and we were unable to hold off the challenge of Turner and Thomson. This Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus ran so well today and we cannot wait for the next race at Cayuga as this is my home track.”

Jacombs also posted the fastest lap of the race with a 19.753 on lap number three.

The next event on the schedule for Dave Jacombs and the #88 Speedy Auto Service Taurus will be the Parade and Pit Stop Competition in Hamilton, ON Saturday June 3rd and the Ford Quality Care 250 at Cayuga Speedway on Sunday June 4th.
