NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES TORONTO EVENT SET FOR LIVE TELEVISION
Jumpstart 100 To Be Telecast By TSN
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 8, 2010) -- NASCAR announced today that the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 Jumpstart 100 event, scheduled for Saturday, July 17 at Toronto's Exhibition Place will be telecast live on TSN and TSN HD.
It will be the first of two live telecasts for the series in 2010. Earlier it was announced that the August 29 race at Montreal's legendary Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would be broadcast live on TSN leading into its coverage of the NASCAR Nationwide Series event in Montreal. RDS, a French-language sister station to TSN, will also carry live coverage of the Montreal event.
TSN, Canada's leading sports broadcaster, has been home to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series for each its four seasons. The balance of the series' race programs is telecast on TSN on a tape-delay basis. TSN is also the Canadian broadcast home for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series events.
TSN's coverage for the Toronto event will commence at 2:30 p.m. ET with the Jumpstart 100 taking the green flag at 2:45 p.m.
This is the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series' first visit to the 11-turn, 1.721-mile temporary road course fashioned from the streets of Toronto. The race is part of the Honda Indy Toronto weekend that is in its second year at the city's waterfront Exhibition Place.
"This event brings together two great supporters of Canadian motorsports -- TSN and Canadian Tire -- to help further the growth of Canada's premier stock-car racing series," said George Silbermann, NASCAR Managing Director of Racing Operations. "Now, race fans from all across Canada get the opportunity to see this exciting race."
"TSN is excited to bring Canadian racing fans live coverage of their favorite homegrown stock car drivers competing next week in the Jumpstart 100 event from Toronto," said Phil King, President, TSN. "The high-caliber racing exhibited throughout the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series certainly contributes to the rapid growth and popularity of stock-car racing in Canada."
The field of cars will be headlined by JR Fitzpatrick, Andrew Ranger and Jason Bowles, who between them have 15 NASCAR Developmental Series wins on road courses. Fitzpatrick is in the hunt for the series title while Ranger, the two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion, along with Bowles, the reigning NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion, look to steal his thunder.
Canadian Tire, as both the series entitlement sponsor and Honda Indy Toronto partner, is promoting its charitable foundation throughout the weekend. Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a community-based program that helps kids aged 4-18 participate in organized sports and recreation, such as hockey, dance, soccer and swimming, and develop important life skills, self-esteem and confidence. National in scope, but local in focus, Canadian Tire Jumpstart delivers support to children in financial need through a Canadian-wide network of local chapters. These chapters are made up of a variety of community leaders committed to helping kids get active.
Tickets and information about the Jumpstart 100, along with the overall Honda Indy Toronto, are still available and can be found at www.hondaindytoronto.com.
