Gibbons wins CARQUEST 300 CASCAR National event LONDON, ON (September 6, 1998) Peter Gibbons of Stouffville, ON won his second CASCAR Castrol National Super Series race of the season on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to dethrone reigning National champion Dave Whitlock, who picked up his third CASCAR crown.

The 17th annual CARQUEST 300 was held at Delaware Speedway Park and was the fourth and final Super Series race of the 1998 season. Finishing second to Gibbons was fellow Chevrolet driver Alex Nagy, of Brantford. The final podium position went to Windsor's Ron Beauchamp Jr., who drives a Dodge Avenger.

Whitlock, of Petrolia, ON, rode to a consistent sixth place finish in the 38-car field and when the math was done, the Ford Taurus driver had earned his third National driver's championship by just 10 points, over Gibbons.
