Sunday June 18, 2000: Hamilton’s Dave Jacombs in the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes Taurus finished sixth in the Exide Batteries 200 at Mosport Speedway on Saturday. Jacombs who qualified twelfth put together another strong effort in their hunt for the Eastern & National CASCAR championships.

The Jacombs Racing team continued their strong qualifying performances with another top twelve effort. The top twelve qualifiers in most CASCAR events are locked onto the starting grid and run a “fast car” heat race for points only, with the start inverted based on order of time trials. This lined Jacombs up first on the grid for the heat race. The #88 Speedy Taurus held off a hard charging Al Turner until mid race when Turner took over the lead. Jacombs finished in the second spot and picked up some valuable championship points.

The start of the Exide 200 was marred by several caution laps but the Speedy/Raybestos Taurus took it easy on the tires and brakes while steadily moving up in the order. By lap 125 Jacombs was in the second position challenging leader and team mate Mark Dilley in the #64 NTN Bearings Taurus. Jacombs then pitted around lap 140 for tires and fuel and returned to the track to take up the eleventh position. Over the final sixty laps Jacombs steadily picked off five competitors to finish in sixth.

Jacombs was satisfied with the finish and these consistent strong performances keep them a solid fourth in the Eastern Championship point standings.

The next event for the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Raybestos Brakes/Jacombs Racing Taurus will be an appearance at the Speedy Auto Service location at 69 Prospect Street, Fredericton New Brunswick on Friday June 23rd from 2 – 6 p.m. Then it is the CARQUEST 200 at New Brunswick International Speedway Saturday & Sunday June 24th and 25th.
