Another Top Finish For Jacombs
Hamilton, Ontario: Dave Jacombs who posted back to back seventh place finishes in the first two events in the Castrol Super Series rolled the dice and brought the Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust #88 Taurus across the line in fourth. The running of the National Fast Freight presents The Exide 250 on Saturday at Mosport proved to be a race of attrition again as several top teams experienced problems including the second and third place points teams of Ron Beauchamp Jr. & Kevin Dowler.
Jacombs was far from satisfied with his car when practice started on Saturday afternoon. The team worked hard making changes during the entire session and the Speedy Taurus managed the fourteenth quickest time in time trials. Still not satisfied the team went back to work to try and get the right set up under the car for the 250 lap main event.
Jacombs spent the first half of the race trying to move forward cautiously and also save the brakes and tires. After a great pit stop on lap ninety-five Jacombs returned to the track in eighteenth position. The Speedy Taurus driver steadily picked off cars in front of him and ran as high as third during the final seventy-five laps. A happy Jacombs said after the race "I have to give my crew a lot of credit. They worked hard today and made the changes to the Speedy Taurus to put it up front. I just didn't quite have enough for the front three at the end but we're happy with a fourth."
Podium finishers were, 1. Mark Dilley in the #64 NTN Bearings Taurus 2. D.J. Kennington in the #17 Castrol Intrepid 3. Al Turner in the #76 Blue Streak Intrepid.
Unofficially Jacombs and the #88 Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust team move into sole possession of third place in the Castrol Super Series Point Standings.
Dave Jacombs and his team would like to thank everyone at Speedy Store # 139 in Oshawa for having the race car at their location for a special event on Friday June 8th. The next event on their schedule is a show at Speedy Auto Service store #111 located at 204 King St. in Oshawa on Friday June 22nd and then on to the Mosport Road Course for event #4 on the Castrol Super Series tour on Saturday & Sunday June 23rd & 24th.
