Dilley Eighth under Hot Sunny Skies in Edmonton
Edmonton, AB (Saturday July 25, 2009): Mark Dilley driving the No. 9 Dodge Avenger paced himself to a solid eighth place finish in the Canadian Tire 100 on Saturday afternoon. The Dodge driver lined up on the starting grid in tenth in this the sixth event on the thirteen race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 2009 schedule.
Dilley was unhappy with the car after practice and qualifying and the team went back to the drawing board. Discussions ensued with the team working on a plan to make Dilley better for the race.
At the drop of the green flag on Saturday under hot sunny skies, Dilley told his crew the car was better. Now he would need to work hard, stay out of trouble and bring the No. 9 Dodge home with a solid finish. Andrew Ranger would lead from flag to flag, a first in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series history with J. R. Fitzpatrick following closely for all 32 laps. A late race blitz by Fitzpatrick had him all over Ranger's back bumper but he couldn't made the pass. Scott Steckly was third and rounding out the top five were British Columbia's Trevor Siebert who started from the back of the field after having to change a motor after qualifying, followed by No. 4 Don Thomson Jr.
The No. 9 Dodge/Leland team will now head to the town of Wadena Saskatchewan where they will take part in some pre race activities including a parade on the streets before arriving in Saskatoon for the race event on Wednesday at Auto Clearing Speedway, a first visit for NASCAR.
