June 11, 2000: CASCAR 1999 Eastern Rookie of the Year Scott Steckly finished the UAP Napa/Auto Pro 150 on the lead lap in fifteenth on Saturday. Stratford's Steckly in the #22 AW Millwrights/Erb Transport Pontiac Grand Prix starting 14th, consistently ran in the top ten all night.
Steckly who has been a consistent thirteenth or fourteenth fastest qualifier did it again with the 14th quickest time during time trials. Steckly went on to finish a strong second in his heat race to the #64 NTN Bearings entry of Mark Dilley. The #22 AW Millwrights/Erb Pontiac then lined up fourteenth on the grid for the UAP Napa/Auto Pro 150 later in the evening. Steckly ran as high as ninth in the 150-lap event that was marred by several caution periods. A late race incident with a local St. Eustache Sportsman car cut down the right front tire. Luck was on Steckly's side when the caution came out for an unrelated incident at the same time and he was able to change the flat tire while the yellow flag waved and not lose a lap. This bad luck again late in the race including lapped traffic and the flat tire ruined another chance at a top ten for the 22 Racing Team.
The next event on the CASCAR schedule for the #22 AW Millwrights/Erb team is the Exide Batteries 200 at Mosport International Speedway (Oval) on Saturday June 17th.
