Whitlock another podium at Cayuga

Wyoming, ON - Sep 12 2005: - The CASCAR teams returned to the famous 5/8 mile oval of Cayuga 2000 Speedway on Saturday night for the Crown Jewel 200. Qualifying 6th, Dave Whitlock powered his #39 Avenue Motor Works / NMT Dodge Charger to a third place finish behind Don Thompson Jr., and winner Peter Gibbons. But the irony is that Gibbons' late-race restart pass on the leader mirrored his winning moves of six days ago at Delaware -- except this time the victim was Thomson, not Whitlock.

"We had a good car all day but we needed to keep working on it to get it better for the end" said Whitlock. "We pitted quite a few times and even there we had a couple of hiccups so I had to work my way past a lot of cars... several times. By the end, Warren [Jones, crew chief] and I had got things pretty close... we were good enough to win. But the yellow marks left on my car when the #1 squeezed between the #19 and I tell that story. We had another potential win snatched away."

UPDATE: re last week's pass by Gibbons for the win, Dave thinks they've found something to hang his hat on. When they ran the 39 car on the chassis dyno, HP was way down; another camshaft problem. "It's beginning to make sense now" he said.
