Vancouver, BC: Dave Jacombs in the Speedy Auto Service Taurus again had those racing gremlins strike in what has proven to be a very frustrating season to date for the Jacombs Racing Team. After completing only one full circuit around the Pacific Concord Place street course the transmission broke and Jacombs was forced to the pits with an early end to their day.
Jacombs and his Speedy/Dynomax/FAG/Inroble Team have been working hard on their road course program all year as evidenced by their third place run at Mosport earlier in the season. The objective was to practice and get comfortable in the car while posting quicker and quicker times. The object was met as Jacombs picked up four full seconds from the practice session to the 2nd qualifying run.
Jacombs lined the Speedy Taurus up for the start of the 35-lap event in the fifteenth position. He was confident that the car would be good over the long runs and a top ten was the objective for the day. But their hopes were dashed early when the transmission malfunctioned and a disappointing finish of 32nd was the result.
Jacombs commented "First off I have to thank my whole team for their hard work this year. It is difficult to stay upbeat when you have the problems that we have had, but they have done just that and they never give up. So much has been out of our control and when a component inside the transmission breaks there is really nothing you can do. Again we felt we had a top ten car at least, as I was getting more comfortable the more laps I ran," he added.
Finish: 1st Robin Buck 2nd. Jim Lapcevich 3rd. Peter Gibbons 4th. Ron Beauchamp Jr. 5th Al Turner 32nd Dave Jacombs
The Speedy Trailer carrying the cars and equipment is expected to arrive in Hamilton by Thursday this week and work will commence to prepare the oval track car for CASCAR's first appearance at Autodrome Montmagny, just east of Quebec City on Sunday August 11th for event #10.
