Jacombs finishes 15th at Race City Speedyway in Calgary.
CALGARY, ALBERTA: Hamilton, Ontario CASCAR racer Dave Jacombs took the checkered flag in the Mopar Parts 300 at Race City Speedway in Calgary in fifteenth place in what was a very exciting race. The Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust/FAG Automotive Taurus ran as high as 7th during the 300 lap event. All nine cars that finished on the lead lap were battling for position when they crossed the line to take the checkered flag.
Jacombs started the weekend on Friday night in his 100 lap qualifying event with a strong 7th place finish. The Speedy Taurus driver had the #88 car up to 5th place when on lap 47 he ran over some debris and punctured a tire. Lady luck was on his side though as the caution flew for a spin at the other end of the track and they were able to come in under caution and make the change. Jacombs took the green in 11th but quickly worked his way back up to 7th at the checkered.
The Mopar 300 on Sunday would see Jacombs line up his CASCAR Taurus in 13th. Jacombs settled into the top fifteen early in the race and when the first caution flew at lap 86 and Jacombs ducked into the pits for some new rubber. On lap 192 when the caution flew for the third time the Speedy Taurus was up to 7th. A decision to stay out, not pit for a new right rear tire and keep track position would prove costly as by lap 250 they had a tire going down. On lap 259 the leaders passed Jacombs and he was officially scored two laps down at the finish. "We expected there would be more cautions late in the race and we could come in for new rubber then," commented Jacombs after the race. "There were only about 12 cars on the lead lap when we decided not to come in around the 200 lap mark. If there had of been another caution we would likely have had a top ten today but those are the chances you take," he added.
Finish: 1. #25 Jeff Lapcevich 2. #02 Kerry Micks 3. #76 Al Turner 4. #1 Peter Gibbons 5. #0 Joe Plazek 15. #88 Dave Jacombs
The Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax/FAG Auto/Inroble Brakes Taurus now makes the journey through the mountains to Vancouver where they will compete at the Vancouver Indy on Friday and Saturday July 26th and 27th in CASCAR Event #9.
