EXIDE / MOPAR / MOBIL 1 DODGE TEAM BATTLES FOR EVERY POSITION
June 29, 2008. Ron Beauchamp Jr. and the Exide/Mopar/Mobil 1 team came to Barrie Speedway for round three of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series hoping to continue the strong kind of performance they showed at the last event. However a race car that was hard to handle and early contact dampened their performance.
When you have a race car that's run dozens of times before you'd think you would know what to expect. For the Exide/Mopar/Mobil 1 team the car acted completely out of character. "Every time we made a bit of an adjustment, we had a huge change in performance. During practice the car was tight, we made minor changes to loosen it up, but wow did it ever get way loose during qualifying. Even with that, we thought the car would be okay for the race" he added.
In the early stages of the 300 lap event this looked to be the case as Beauchamp moved up from his fourteenth starting spot into the top-ten. "Things seemed to be settling down and I thought we had a car that I could work with all night long, I was just riding along and saving the car for later, when all of a sudden, out of turn four, the 84 is turned around and then we're into him. There was so much smoke I couldn't even see who it was until after the contact".
Most teams would buckle under the pressure but not the Exide/Mopar/Mobil 1 group. They completed repairs to the radiator and also some of the handling and suspension parts in quick order. Though many laps down, there was an opportunity to make gains due to the high attrition. "The team did an awesome job to get the car repaired and get us back out and salvage some points" said the driver. "The way the car behaved though we know there is something in the handling that isn't right, we'll find out exactly the problem when we get back to the shop and get ready for next week".
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series resumes Saturday July 5th with the rescheduled event for Autodrome St. Eustache. This years schedule will consist of thirteen races on oval tracks, temporary street circuits and road courses. All races will once again be broadcast on TSN.
