Montmagny, PQ: Al Turner and the Blue Streak Racing Team did not post the finish they hoped for at CASCAR's inaugural visit to Autodrome Montmagny, after practicing and qualifying in the top ten. Turner's #76 Intrepid race car was performing flawlessly when the motor lost the coolant and they were forced to the pits for repairs, which resulted in a 20th, place finish.
Turner was happy with the car after the practice session on Saturday as they consistently posted times in the top ten. Time trials on Sunday would see the Blue Streak Intrepid post the seventh quickest time and this is where he would line up for the start of the Snap On Tools 200 later in the afternoon.
When the green flag dropped before a full house of spectators, Turner quickly settled into seventh. By lap 30 he had made is way to 5th and was really comfortable with the car. On lap 52 he headed down pit road, as there was something definitely wrong with the car. A look under the hood and the back of the car confirmed that the coolant was leaking and they headed behind the wall for repairs. Turner remarked after the race "We had a good car again today as I could move up on the guys ahead of me whenever I wanted but I was saving the tires as we knew they would be an issue late in the race," he added. Turner currently sits in seventh in the National Point Standings headed into event #11.
Finish: 1. Dave Whitlock 2. D.J. Kennington 3. Don Thomson Jr. 4. Kevin Dowler 5. Dave Jacombs 20. Al Turner
The CASCAR Super Series moves on to event #11 at Kawartha Speedway on Sunday August 18th. "We ran really well at Kawartha last year and probably had a top five car, but late in the race we got together with another competitor and that moved us out of the top ten," stated Turner. "Kawartha is a lot like Montmagny so we are going there with a lot of confidence," he commented.
Schedule for August 18th: Gates open at 10 a.m., CASCAR Time Trials at 11:45, Green flag drops on the Kawartha Racetrack Slots 200 at 2:30 p.m.
