Vinales: My MotoGP test pace can translate to races

Suzuki’s MotoGP testing pacesetter Maverick Vinales believes his strong pre-season form can be reflected in his race performances this year.

Vinales was fastest in pre-season testing for the second time this year when he topped day two in Qatar on Thursday.

“The motivation comes when you go fast,” said Vinales. “Lap by lap, the bike is getting better, and for the moment we have a good setup.

“Anyway, if we put everything together like I did for the 1m55.4s I think we can do a really good pace in the race too.”

Improving all the time

Vinales said that the confidence he was gaining as a frontrunner each day was pushing his team on find more improvements as the season approaches.

“On the last day in Malaysia [Sepang] we did a good job, and each day in Australia [Phillip Island] – and now also here,” said Vinales. “Being quick in the test makes you motivated and positive.

“Every day we make good steps, and I still want to make it better in areas like the grip, that is still our limiting point. We tried a lot, different shocks to find more grip, and different electronic setups, trying new things.

“Tomorrow everyone can go really fast, so we need to improve our laptime too."
