Valencia MotoGP: Marquez heads Lorenzo in final warm-up, Rossi fourth

Honda rider Marc Marquez headed the timesheets in the final warm-up session of the 2015 MotoGP season at Valencia, going three tenths clear of the rest of the field.

Championship contenders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi ended the last pre-race session in second and fourth respectively, split by the Tech 3 Yamaha of Pol Espargaro.

Marquez headed the session virtually from the very beginning and, while Lorenzo seemed to largely match his pace in the mid-1m31s, it was the Honda rider who led at the halfway point.

Despite getting very close on two subsequent attempts, Lorenzo could not surpass Marquez's earlier benchmark - and the reigning champion subsequently put in a 1m31.062s at the chequered flag to put his place at the top beyond doubt.

Rossi, meanwhile, ran several laps in the high-1m31s in the first stint, which took him to third - but he was then demoted by Dani Pedrosa, who ran four consecutive high-1m31s laps late on.

Rossi responded with his session-best time of 1m31.618s, but would have to settle for fourth in the end, as Espargaro moved 0.021s past in the dying seconds.

With Pedrosa fifth, Cal Crutchlow was sixth for LCR Honda, while Andrea Iannone was the top Ducati in seventh.

Iannone's teammate Andrea Dovizioso was 10th, the Ducati duo split by Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Yamaha) and Aleix Espargaro (Suzuki).
