Team did a great job in Assen
The TT Assen brought one point in the championship for the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team, as Kousuke Akiyoshi, the replacement rider for the injured Hiroshi Aoyama in Assen and Barcelona, finished the race on 15th position.
After Akiyoshi had a heavy crash in this morning's Warm up, the Honda RC212V was completely destroyed and the mechanics of the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team did a fantastic job putting all the pieces together and fix the bike just in time for the start of the race. Akiyoshi then was starting the race with exactly the same bike and it was fully operating.
Akiyoshi will also race in Barcelona for the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team and he will replace Aoyama once more for the Spanish Grand Prix in Catalunya. Together with the 35 years old Akiyoshi a second test rider will take part in the race as Rossi will be replaces by the Yamaha test rider on his Yamaha M1.
Kousuke Akiyoshi, 15 -- 41'42.019:
"First of all I have to say that I wish all the best to Hiro and I hope he will come back soon. In general this was a good weekend for me. I am here as a replacement and to test the bike and to help the team. The last time I was part of a race of the world championship was more than a year ago and once again I really enjoyed this experience. I am looking forward to the race in Barcelona."
Daniel M. Epp, Team Manager:
"You can see on the result of Kousuke that the level of the MotoGP riders is very high. Kousuke improved step by step during this weekend and he did all he could do. He never has been to this track before. Barcelona he knows. In Barcelona will also be a second test rider as the replacement for Valentino Rossi and I am looking forward to see the battle between the two test riders and I am curious who will win this battle."
