Akiyoshi testing Honda in Assen

The Honda test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi, who is replacing Hiroshi Aoyama in Assen after Aoyama injured himself during a crash at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, did use the two practice days at Assen for a heavy testing program with the Honda RC212V. The 35 years old Japanese rode the MotoGP Honda of today for the first time in yesterday's free practice and is impressed by its power. Akiyoshi feels comfortable in the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team and tries to transfer his knowledge as a test rider into the premier class of Motorcycle racing, which is a bit difficult, so he says.

Kousuke Akiyoshi, 15 -- 1'38.198:
"I try to help the team as much as possible. For me it is difficult to set up all the different settings of the bike. But I have fun and this experience is very interesting. I improved by 2 seconds since yesterday, 1 second since this morning's practice. I will try to keep improving also during tomorrow's race and I look forward to this challenge."

Daniel M. Epp, Team Manager:
"It went better than I expected. The gap to Barbera is only 1.6 seconds. We are quite satisfied with the qualifying time. You can clearly see the difference between MotoGP riders and the rest of the world, but Kousuke does not have to hide himself with the performance he showed."
