Suzuki rider Aleix Espargaro says he and teammate Maverick Vinales should be competing for podium finishes in the upcoming season, following on from the manufacturer's strong showing in Phillip Island testing.
Suzuki entered the 2015 MotoGP season as a factory team for the first time since 2011, with Spanish duo Espargaro and Vinales taking 11th and 12th respectively.
But while the manufacturer's two riders did produce a shock 1-2 in qualifying at Catalunya, neither Espargaro, nor Vinales finished any of the grands prix in higher than sixth place.
The Suzuki team has so far produced a strong showing in 2016 pre-season testing, with Vinales setting the overall fastest time at Phillip Island.
"We try to learn every day how to ride faster, day by day we have more experience," said Vinales as Suzuki officially launched its 2016 campaign. "I think this year we're gonna be much better."
Espargaro concurred: "I enjoyed riding the bike again, we are stronger than last year. Obviously the bike is getting better and better. This year we have to fight for the podium."
"We are evolving, improving our bike and developing more and more," team principal Davide Brivio added. "In this sense, we all feel quite confident."
