GRAND PRIX ON THE DOORSTEP FOR TEAM SAN CARLO HONDA GRESINI

Team San Carlo Honda Gresini and Marco Simoncelli in particular face the prospect of a true 'home' race this weekend. Fausto Gresini's racing headquarters are just a few kilometres from the Misano Adriatico circuit, as is Simoncelli's hometown of Coriano. It is the ideal race to finally achieve the top result "Super Sic" has been threatening this season as he continues to close the gap to the best in the category and the vociferous home crowd are sure to give him plenty of support. Marco Melandri will also get plenty of backing as he looks to recover from his crash at Indianapolis. The Italian has been struggling since the start of the season to find a good feeling with his bike during the Friday and Saturday practice sessions but is hopeful he can do so on familiar territory. Misano is usually the scene of great drama and the support of the thousands of fans is always a huge help to Team Gresini.

Marco Simoncelli "I was satisfied at the end of the race at Indianapolis but to be honest I would have preferred a top five finish. We'll try for it at Misano! To be honest the Misano circuit itself isn't one of my favourites but the support from the fans makes up for that and should be a big help this weekend. I have never had great results at my home race so hopefully we can turn that record around this weekend. Since Brno we have taken another step forward and I hope things can improve still further this weekend. I have had a lot of support from Honda and the team and that is crucial to my progress."

Marco Melandri "The crash at Indianapolis wasn't what we needed. I am disappointed with the way the season is going - I'm struggling and can't find a way to improve my feeling with the bike and adapt it to my style of riding. Hopefully the fact this is a home race for us can help. I want to make up for time lost over the last couple of races and find a way to ride the RC212V to the limit. I really want to show my true potential again and we'll be working hard with the team at Misano on this very objective."

Fausto Gresini "We came back from Indianapolis feeling happy and disappointed at the same time: happy because we saw more progress from Simoncelli, who looks ready to turn his promise into results, and disappointed because Melandri was unable to fully unlock the potential he showed signs of before crashing in America. We are trying to help him because we believe in him and we want to see him riding to the best of his ability again. Misano could be a big help in this. The track is on our doorstep and the atmosphere will no doubt be fantastic. The support from the fans there is always extraordinary and it will be a big help. Misano is an important weekend and it gives us great pride to once again be organising the Dedikato event, which is a special evening where we discuss the sport and remember Daijiro Kato - a rider who will always be in our hearts. It is a small but significant tribute to those less fortunate than ourselves, who have to fight for their lives. We will give our proceeds to the foundation for cystic fibrosis to help them continue their research and we're sure that as usual we will be joined by the riders, who think a lot of this project. I want to thank all of them and I hope we get plenty there."
