Track is one of his favorites
Scott Redding heads to round six of the MotoGP World Championship at Mugello, Italy with the same aim as always; to finish Sunday’s race as the highest placed Honda RCV1000R rider.
It’s a goal that the 21-year-old Briton has achieved twice already this season, once at the opening race in Qatar and again at Le Mans less than two weeks ago. In the five races run so far this season, Scott has scored 18 points, just five less than fellow Honda RCV1000R rider, and former MotoGP World Champion, Nicky Hayden.
Mugello is a track that Scott counts amongst his favourites and it was the scene of a dominant performance last year, when he took a convincing victory in the Moto2 race from pole position.
“I enjoy racing at Mugello a lot," he said, "and it has good memories for me after winning the Moto2 race there last year. It’s also one of the few tracks where I’ve tested a MotoGP bike before, although not the Honda RCV1000R I’ll be racing this weekend, but it means I already know some of the reference points. Mugello is quite a physical track and it’s often made more demanding by the weather, which is typically hot and humid, but I’m prepared for that. You need to be smooth and flowing at this track, which will be a little difficult with our bike, but we’ll see how it goes because you never know what can happen.”
