World champion Alex Crivillé gave the Repsol YPF Honda team it's best result of the day with sixth place, but his team-mate Sete Gibernau came very close to scoring his first podium of the year. Gibernau led the early laps and was later in third place when he had a spectacular crash. Tadayuki Okada finished just behind Crivillé, in seventh place.

ALEX CRIVILLÉ 6th 48'23.085
World Championship Position: 8th 107 Pts

"Someone touched me on the first lap and pushed me wide and off the track. That lost me a lot of time. After that little incident, I opted to take my time to get back into the proper rhythm of the race. I then started to come back on the others and to overtake slower riders. My pace was almost the same as the guys in front so no doubt if I had taken a good start I could have been up there fighting for a podium position. When I eventually came up behind Laconi, I found it impossible to pass him because my tyres had no grip left. I'm not happy with this result but I think we did make some good progress throughout the week-end. Let's hope it works out for the race as well in Valencia".

TADY OKADA 7th 48'23.088
World Championship Position: 11th 80 Pts

"I made a mistake at the start and that probably cost me a good result. I got going a little too early so I had to break to avoid jumping the start and that meant I ended up losing a lot of time. I had to fight my way through to come back up the standings. The wind was a real problem today, especially in specific corners like the first and second corners and the one before the last corner. The bike tended to run wide and it was really difficult to hold the right line. When I was behind vd. Goorbergh it was hard to get by him because this track doesn't really suit the V4s. It's hard to make the most of our power here".

SETE GIBERNAU CRASHED OUT
World Championship Position: 15th 51 Pts

"That was a big crash. It's left me with bruises on my neck and on my back. I was the only one of the front guys with a 17 inch rear tyre and because of that, I was losing half a second a lap. I was sliding everywhere. Every time I opened the throttle the bike would start sliding. Still, I think I ran a good race. Me and the team, we've been working so hard all week-end and I think it showed today. When Rossi passed me, he had a higher pace than mine but then I started coming back at him. I was closing the gap so I tried even harder than before to come back and that's when the back wheel suddenly stepped out and I crashed".
