The Argentinian rider Sebastián Porto took yesterday the Dutch TT GP, sixth round of the 250cc Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix (MOTOGP), disputed at the legendary Circuit van Drenthe at Assen. Both Spaniard drivers Dani Pedrosa and Toni Elías completed the podium.

"Who wouldn`t like to win the Tourist Trophy Circuit of Assen? All the riders think sometime to win this historical competition", said Porto before the activity even started.

With the fantastic time set on Friday qualifying session, Porto put his name as candidate number one to take the victory among the usual fighters Randy de Puniet with Aprilia, and Pedrosa and Elías in the Honda side.

Porto kept the first place in the start followed by De Puniet, his teammate, Fonsi Nieto, while Pedrosa felt to 17th. position in the very first move.

The French quickly tried to push on the leader and Nieto lost in the classification any chance to fight for the podium in the beginning.

On lap sixth, De Puniet jumped to the leadership leaving Porto second while Pedrosa was already fourth in a fantastic recovering using all the potential of his factory Honda.

Once again, Porto raced using all his known capacity and experience of 130 races in the World Championship and stayed on De Puniet`s heels through the following four laps, saving the tyres and the potential of the Aprilia.

"As we talked with Aspar (team owner), if we had the chance of build a gap, we go for it, but it would mean a strong ware of the tyres. It was no sense to push", explained the Argentinian.

Porto, who also dominated the warm-up before the race, re-took the first place in the main straight and De Puniet quickly lost until fourth position, right after both Honda drivers.

With eight laps to the end of the race, Porto decided to start using all the potential of the Aprilia and set the fastest lap three times (lap 11, 12 and 13), which gave him a gap of over two seconds with Pedrosa, something unusual in the Continental Circus.

"At the end of the pits straight, I passed De Puniet and I left to make another good difference. Is true the bike was more complicated than the start, but it was more constant", Porto mentioned.

Porto confirmed in the last part of the race his strategy of take care the bike in the beginning and then accelerate the Aprilia until leave with no opportunity of dispute the first place to his rivals.

"With De Puniet, Elías, Pedrosa and (Alex) De Angelis, I checked what they had for the rest of the race. The rhythm of my bike was superior", stated the winner.

Porto had no problems to close the race, despite the fantastic time set by Pedrosa that left the Argentinian without the chance of take the pole position, the victory and the fastest lap on race.

Porto completed the honour lap taking with him the Argentinian flag showing to the world that, at least in the 250cc, Assen has a new conqueror.

With his overwhelming victory, Porto received of master in the World Championship, in the circuit that everybody wants to win, in the "Monaco" of bike races. Porto, there`s no question about it, he did it.

"This is the best race in my life, my greatest day in motorcycle", expressed Sebastián, while he continued: "It was a fantastic weekend, I own this to my sponsors, my mechanics and to my family, that supported me. We must keep working to put the bike in his level, like today or Mugello, where I can in the limit under control", he said.

"We arrived to Assen with the target of add points to continue near De Puniet an Pedrosa in the championship. The only way of do this is winning like we did today", finished the Repsol - Aspar team driver.

If Mugello`s victory was the candidature of Porto to fight for the championship, this conquest of Assen is the perfect way to confirm his possibilities for the rest of the season.

After six rounds completed, the standings has De Puniet and Pedrosa closed in one point: 111 to 110. With 88 points appears in third place Porto, chasing race by race his dream of became World Champion.

The action will continue in one week, on July 4th. at Río de Janeiro, Brazil. The Nelson Piquet raceway will be scenary of another exciting round of the Continental Circus.
