Dani Pedrosa and the Honda Racing Corporation are to continue their relationship in MotoGP for at least another two years with the announcement being made earlier today. Pedrosa, who currently sits in third place in this year’s world championship standings, will continue in his quest for his first title in the premier class following eight seasons that saw him finish second and third in the standings on three times each.
Pedrosa originally joined Honda in 2001 on his first season in the World Championships and it didn’t take long for him to be fighting at the front and he took his first title in 2003 in the 125cc class. He then became the man to beat in the 250cc paddock taking consecutive titles in 2004 and 2005. Moving into the MotoGP Class in 2006, Pedrosa impressed immediately finishing fifth along with taking the Rookie of the Year title and since then he has amassed a total of 90 podiums and 25 wins.
Speaking of the announcement Pedrosa said he was delighted to continue with his current team. He said, “I'm very happy to be able to announce my renewal with the Repsol Honda Team, and grateful to Honda for the trust they have shown in me for a further two years. It's the best way for me to continue in my racing career, together with the company I was with in my very first race. I am very excited to give my 100% and continue to work together with everyone at Honda Racing Corporation.”
Likewise, Mr Shuhei Nakamoto, Executive Vice President of Honda Racing Corporation was also very happy to be able to sign Pedrosa for another two years. He said, “We are very pleased to renew our contract with Dani. He is enjoying a very strong season and is currently tied with Rossi in the Championship, we are very happy with his performance. The partnership of Dani and Marc has proven to be successful and we look forward to another two years of success.”
