Dani Pedrosa's participation in this weekend's Marlboro Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, the thirteenth round of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix (MotoGP), and perhaps even in the following race in Australia, has been cast into serious doubt after he suffered a crash in the second free practice session at the Sepang Circuit today.

Repsol Honda's Spanish rookie opened up a gash in his left knee after flying off his RC211V at the midway point in the second session, and the awkward location of the injury means that the rider's movement is severely limited. A bruised left toe adds to Pedrosas's woes.

Pedrosa will be examined tomorrow morning by the Clinica Mobile team and his chances of racing on Sunday will be assessed. Despite the setback, Pedrosa was able to take second on the first day of practice at the Asian track which had Loris Capirossi on top spot.
