Qualifying practice nr 1 - Twin Ring Motegi, 13th of October, 2000

Alex Crivilli was looking good for the first day of official practice in Motegi. The 1999 500cc world champion ran as high as fifth before dropping down to eight place in the final moments of this afternoon's first qualifying session. Local man Tadayuki Okada ended the session in thirteenth place while Sete Gibernau qualified one place behind his Japanese team-mate.

ALEX CRIVILLI - 8th - 1'51.360
"We've got a good pace and that's important because I expect a long hard race here. This is a tough and demanding circuit but I feel good. I'm optimistic about this race and the way our practice has gone so far. For most of this afternoon's session, I was around fifth fastest. In the last five minutes, we started working with a softer tyre but my lap times were the same as with the race tyre. We've worked with both the 16.5 and the 17 inch rear tyres but I feel more comfortable with the 17. Anyway, we'll have to improve a little tomorrow and then we'll be right where we need to be to fight for the win here".

TADY OKADA - 13th - 1'52.066
"I feel much, much better than I did this morning. I'm getting much better feedback from the track and our traction seems to be up quite a lot. We were trying a lot of different things on the front forks this morning and we didn't manage to find the optimum setting. But we did this afternoon and after we stiffened up the spring, the bike felt much better. I'm still down in 13th position and about two seconds off the leaders though so it's a little too early to rejoice. We've still got some work on the suspension to do for tomorrow in order to improve".

SETE GIBERNAU - 14th - 1'52.168
"The bike and I are both worth more than our position in this afternoon's practice session and I think we have a good potential for Sunday's race. But today we lost a lot of time working on the bike in the pits, changing a lot of things on the bike. Tomorrow we've still got a few set-up changes to try but I think we can aim for a front or second row starting position. It's very important to get a good grid position on this circuit and the team has been working very hard to get us there".
