Honda's Marc Marquez comfortably topped the timing screens in the warm-up session ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix.
Poleman Jorge Lorenzo set the early pace in the 20-minute session, but there'd be no matching Marquez once he took over.
The reigning champion logged a time of 1m32.504s, six tenths clear of Lorenzo, and remained the only driver within 1m32s, setting laps good enough for the top spot in the warm-up on several further occasions.
Lorenzo's third lap of his 12-lap stint remained as his best of the session and was good enough to give him second ahead of Andrea Iannone, Dani Pedrosa and Pol Espargaro.
Championship leader Valentino Rossi, running winglets on his bike, was a second behind Marquez in sixth, with Bradley Smith taking seventh.
Andrea Dovizioso, Scott Redding and Michele Pirro completed the top ten.
