Marc Marquez and his Repsol Honda team have confirmed that the 2013 MotoGP World Champion will not take any further part in pre-season testing for the 2014 MotoGP World Championship after doctors advised that further rest is required on his fractured right leg that he sustained during a motocross training accident near his home in Spain last week.

I will take time to rest and get myself as fit as possible.

Marquez met with Doctor Xavier Mir today and following a thorough examination Dr Mir was pleased with how the injury is healing but advised against risking potential further damage before the season opener in Qatar on 23rd March. The 21-year-old had been undergoing a tough recovery program and has been on crutches since the accident but the injury needs further time to heal fully.

With just three weeks to go before the first race of the season, Marquez is not happy to be ruled out of getting back on his bike and with testing continuing this week at the Sepang International Circuit his rivals will gain vital set up time on their machines and missing the Philip Island test is another blow to the reigning MotoGP Champion's preparations.

Speaking after making the announcement that he would not be taking part in thenPhilip Island test Marquez said, "I’m obviously disappointed that I’m not in Sepang at the moment and to miss Phillip Island is also unfortunate, but we believe it is the best decision. After my meeting today with Dr. Mir, although he was happy with the general situation of my leg after only seven days since the accident, he advised against taking unnecessary risk. So I will take time to rest and get myself as fit as possible to return to Qatar for the first race in the best shape possible."
