The upcoming Grand Prix, the TT Assen, will take place not even a week after the eventful British Grand Prix and it is the 80th birthday of the so-called "cathedral" of motorcycle racing. The TT Assen is part of the race-calendar since the first hour of the MotoGP world championship in 1949 and it is also one of the most ambitious and difficult racetracks for the stars of the world championship.
After the success in Silverstone, at the first ever British Grand Prix for the new Moto2 class, at which Tom Luthi achieved the second position on the podium, Luthi wants to continue with the success and hopes that he can support on his third position in the world championship. The Swiss missed out on the victory in Queen Elisabeth's country by just 0.057 seconds. Maybe the TT Assen is just what the 24 years old youngster was waiting for, as he likes fast and demanding racetracks.
"Assen is a nice track with a big tradition. I like the layout and I am looking forward to this Grand Prix. The second place in Silverstone gave me a good motivation and also the fans in Assen always create a very special atmosphere. I want to carry with me the good feeling I got from the last Grand Prix and keep building it up."
Terrell Thien, Teammanager:
"Assen is a great racetrack, a traditional course that many riders appreciate. I think Tom likes this track a lot and after the fantastic result in Great Britain I am looking forward to start with the TT Assen. I am very happy with the work of my guys. They worked really hard and they achieved the result we got. I hope we can continue like this also in Assen."
The race weekend of the TT Assen will start with the first free practice of the 125cc class on 24th of June and will end on 26th of June with the MotoGP race. The races in Assen will take place on the Saturday.
