The seventh race of the season 2010 will take place the coming weekend in Montmelo, near Barcelona in Spain and it is the last of three successive races. Montmelo is located about half an hour from the Catalan Metropolis Barcelona and it is the home of Dorna Sports, the license holder and organisation for the MotoGP world championship. Usually the weather is extremely hot at the side of the Mediterranean Sea and riders and teams have to use the two practice days to find the best settings for the bike and to choose the right tyres for the Gran Premi de Catalunya.
Tom Luthi will definitely try to take part at the Gran Premi de Catalunya near Barcelona. The young Swiss was flown home straight after the race in Assen last Saturday and received an operation on his broken left collarbone the same night. Luthi rode his bike to second in Silverstone with a dislocated collarbone. On the hollandaise Assen TT circuit Luthi had to avoid a slide and his collarbone broke, despite the fracture he finished the race on third place. The 24 years old wants to continue with his strong performance also in Barcelona.
"I will definitely try to ride in Barcelona. I feel fine after the operation and there are still three days to go to get well. I am currently in the Top 3 of the championship and I don't want to risk to lose this position with a zero points race."
Terrell Thien, Teammanager:
"What Tom showed us in Silverstone and Assen was a great performance! He rode two very strong races despite his injury. Also the schedule afterwards was perfectly planned. Saturday evening Tom received the operation and now he is recovering. If he will start the race in Barcelona we will see after the first free practice on Friday."
Daniel M. Epp, Fahrermanagement:
"It was a fantastic performance of Tom to ride the bike home to second with a dislocated collarbone in Silverstone and then in Assen he hit the target again with the third place and an already broken collarbone by that time. This shows his strong will and the power this young man has. He will do all he can to start the race in Barcelona."
The race weekend of the Gran Premi de Catalunya will start on 2nd of July with the first free practice of the 125cc class and finishes with the MotoGP race on 4th of July.
