Positive final day for Dovizioso and JiR Team Scot at Sepang test
Today's third and last day ended on a positive note for new MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso and his JiR Team Scot squad. The 21-year old Italian took advantage of more track time on his four-stroke Honda RC212V and completed a total of 54 laps with his best time being 2 '02.128" - four tenths quicker than yesterday's time. Andrea's time was enough for him to hold fourth place overall on the timesheets.
The 2004 125cc World Champion has worked closely over the three-day test with tyre manufacturer Michelin testing different compounds and also working towards a base setting for the four-stroke which will suit his own riding style. During the three days, Andrea has completed a total of 472 miles (760 km) in testing, while also getting used to the physically harder demands of riding a four-stroke MotoGP bike after a career spent on the lighter two-strokes.
Gianluca Montiron - Director, JiR Team Scot
"These last three days have been most important as they have allowed the new team to build up and evaluate their first impressions about the technical characteristics of our bike. A positive factor is that Andrea has very much impressed HRC, Michelin and Showa technicians for his precision to give details and feedback - even though this is his very first ride on the new bike. I would be lying if I said the stopwatch was not important even at this early stage, and this means that our progress has been steady and methodical. We think it will be important to follow the fascinating apprenticeship of Andrea in the upcoming test at Jerez on 27th-29th November. This will mark the end of our first step towards the 2008 season before taking the well-deserved winter break."
Andrea Dovizioso - Rider, JiR Team Scot MotoGP
"Today I rode for many laps and I must say I'm more tired on a MotoGP machine than on a 250! Anyway in such hot and humid weather conditions it's good training and I must get used to this! I'm having more and more fun and this is good as it means that my confidence with the motorbike is increasing day by day. We still have so much work to do in order to understand more how to exploit our Honda to the fullest. I still have to get used to the engine braking as well, but I'm satisfied with these tests and I go back home knowing that the team and I have done well."
Gianni Berti - Technical Coordinator, JiR Team Scot MotoGP
"For our team this has been a very important test to build confidence with the bike, not only with Andrea but also with all the technicians in the team. Each time Andrea was on the track he's been able to discover something new and this is the goal of these winter tests. It's still too early for a deep analysis of the technical situation, since we are still at the beginning of our 'path' in the MotoGP class. Today was dedicated to tyre testing in order to understand which is the best basis for our rider's style."
