Fourth fastest for Dovizioso and JiR Team Scot at Sepang
JiR Team Scot and new MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso continued their winter test schedule with day one of their test at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.
The 2007 250cc class runner-up did a total of 26 laps on the 2007 Honda RC212V around the 3.447 mile (5.548 km) track. Testing was halted during the second half of the day thanks to rain, but the 21-year-old Italian managed to set the fourth fastest time of the day at one of his favourite tracks on the MotoGP calendar. Testing continues tomorrow and Saturday.
Gianluca Montiron - Director, JiR Team Scot
"We are still in the first phase of our work for these winter tests and this means Andrea is evaluating all the parameters and getting to know the RC212V Honda before pushing to its limits. He's effectively learning more about the bike all the time, with the Team following his indications. This stage of testing is important as is the Jerez test at the end of the month. Although today was affected by the weather, it's still very positive for us to see Andrea doing well near the top of the time sheets, but that is not the most important factor. Learning more and more about the technical aspects of this new bike after many years on two-stroke machines is most important. After November's Jerez test we have the test ban until the middle of January so we hope to get much done and end 2007 ready for the new machine and ready to do more work as we head to the start of the 2008 season."
Andrea Dovizioso - Rider, JiR Team Scot MotoGP
"Despite the rain, today was very, very good and I am so satisfied! I couldn't wait to ride the bike on this racetrack as it is one of my favourites and I love it so much. Riding a MotoGP bike around here is very cool! We're understanding many things and we are gradually getting to know more and more about my new machine. Yes things are going well, but my feeling is still not 100% on this bike. The MotoGP four-stroke machine is very different from the 250cc two-stroke and because of this you have to look at so many different elements on the machine and the set-up before you can really push as hard as you would like or as hard as I could on the 250. We have improved the engine braking system today, which was one of my limitations at Valencia. Since we only had half a day thanks to the rain we didn't try many tyres. I'm willing to learn new things on this machine so I'm sure I can give more and more as time goes on."
Gianni Berti - Technical Coordinator, JiR Team Scot MotoGP
"Today again has been quite good for us. Again we have been working on Andrea's 'apprenticeship' in the MotoGP class so we haven't really made any changes or changed any engine mapping etc. We wanted to give Andrea the basic machine setting from which he could make a fresh start. We couldn't go out on track until late morning thanks to some overnight rain and this meant we could only make 21 laps, but we are very satisfied. We are taking it easy with Andrea, but today's results are quite good for us with this fourth position. This is a very positive start."
