HONDA LCR TEAM AT HOME FOR ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
The Honda LCR team will be at home for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello this weekend, an event that produces a unique atmosphere on the MotoGP calendar. And emotions will run high in Lucio Cecchinello's squad with team rider Carlos Checa out to make strong showing at the home race of his much admired team boss.
Sunday's 23-lap race at Mugello is round six of the MotoGP Championship, and is followed just one week later by the Catalunya GP in Barcelona. Mugello is the first of four races in June, the busiest month of the racing season. And Checa is looking forward the Italian GP after a successful tyre test session at Le Mans following last weeks rain-soaked race in France.
For the 250cc GP, Irish rookie Eugene Laverty will call on the services of team boss Lucio Cecchinello to learn the fast, undulating and highly technical 5.24 km Mugello circuit.
CHECA: "Mugello is a track that I always enjoy, the atmosphere is unique and the race is also very special for the LCR team. At Mugello you need to carry a lot of corner speed, so I'm hoping to make the difference in this area with recent improvements to the suspension and tyre set-up on the Honda RC212V. Michelin have assisted with a tyre that provides more stability at the rear and I'm feeling very comfortable with our set-up now. It was a shame not to be able to capitalise on our strong dry track qualifying at Le Mans last week. This is not an easy race, but always enjoyable."
LAVERTY: "Mugello looks like my kind of circuit with lots of fast corners and challenging downhill sections. I've asked Lucio to show me the way around on a scooter before practice and I hope to learn a lot from his experience here."
