FIRST EVER MOTOGP NIGHT TEST AT QATAR

Losail, 28 February: Under the state-of-the-art new lighting system at the desert circuit of Losail, the premier class Teams and riders completed their first day of testing before the season opening on the 9 of March. The seven hour session started at 6:00 pm local time with a temperature of 16 and Stoner was the fastest rider with a 1'55.330 lap time followed by Yamaha rider Lorenzo and the LCR Honda MotoGP Team rider Randy De Puniet.

The Frenchman aboard the Michelin-shod Honda RC212V gained a crucial first taste of what to expect at the season kick off focusing his work mainly on race tyres testing. Randy went round the Qatar circuit 88 times clocking up many consistent lap times and rounding off the top three (1'56.062).

De Puniet: "Honestly the first lap in these new conditions was a bit strange. The track was completely floodlit but outside it was deeply dark. Anyway I think it's better now: the temperature is cooler and I had no special problems with the shadows on the track. We made some small changes on our base set-up and, after that, we focused on race tyres testing. Our level is pretty good and I clocked consistently fast lap times on race tyres. I tested only one Q-tyre shaving two tenths but I think that the race pace is more important and feel happy about my rhythm here".
