CHECA COMPLETES MARATHON TEST IN BARCELLONA
Barcelona, 11 June: Honda LCR rider Carlos Checa completed a marathon, 92 lap test session at the Montmelo circuit today, just one day after the Catalunya Grand Prix. It was a successful and positive test for the veteran Spanish rider, who went 1.8s faster than his bets time in yesterday's race.
Checa's main focus was tyre testing with Michelin and set-up options, in a bid to solve the handling and balance problems which slowed him in the race. Today Checa tried a range of different tyre specifications and this was the main area of improvement, which he hopes will lead to a more suitable choice of tyres for next week's British Grand Prix.
Time : 1'43.65: laps 92
CHECA: "I tried about ten different specification rear tyres today and I found some better options, which is usual when you have a full day of tyre testing. With only four or five choices under the tyre rules at a race, it can be difficult to select the ideal tyre for the conditions. for some reason we had a problem for the race here, so today's information should benefit us for the future. The bike and tyre package felt much better today, the rear tyre was working and the bike felt more stable, I was able to hold my speed in all sections and also the front turning was improved, I could hold the inside through the corners. It was very productive day, and we found some solutions to our race problems."
