Ducati Team rider sets fastest lap ahead of Marquez and Pedrosa
Round 14 of this year’s MotoGP championship saw Andrea Dovizioso shoot to the top of the timing sheets today with the Ducati Team rider coming away with the top time after the first two practice sessions of the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón with Repsol Honda teammates Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa in second and third place respectively.
Dovizioso set this fastest lap of 1m 48.285s on a mildly modified machine that Ducati is referring to as the GP14.2 with the Italian setting the best time in FP2 on the soft tire available to the Ducatis in Open Spec trim and fellow satellite Ducati rider Andrea Iannone was fastest this morning for the Pramac Racing team. Marquez was close behind Dovizioso with a best lap of 1m 48.328s while teammate Pedrosa was slightly further back on a 1m 48.734s lap.
Iannone set a best time of 1m 48.747s that was set this afternoon with lap times improving with warmer temperatures and the extra rubber laid down from the earlier practice sessions. The Espargaro brothers were locked together on the timing sheets today with Aleix (NGM Forward Racing) pipping Pol (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) by just .028s while Jorge Lorenzo was just .003s behind the younger of the two Espargaro’s.
Stefan Bradl sits in 8th after day one for the LCR Honda team with the German rider setting a best time of 1m 49.002s while Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith sits in 9th and .301s ahead of Misano race-winner Valentino Rossi and the Movistar Yamaha YZR-M1 who rounds out the top ten. There was drama for Avintia racing’s Hector Barbera whose machine went on fire this morning and forcing the rider to dump his machine causing slight burning on his arm but he managed to get back on track this afternoon to set the 17th fastest time ahead of Nicky Hayden who returned to action today for the Drive M7 Aspar rider in 18th.
