Rain causes multiple crashes in both free practice sessions
Andrea Dovizioso leads the way after day one of practice for the GP TIM Di San Marino E Della Riviera Di Rimini with the Ducati Team rider adapting the best to the rain soaked track that saw multiple crashes in both free practice sessions. Dovizioso leads the way with his best lap of 1m 52.093s putting him 1.115s ahead of Pramac Racing’s Yonny Hernandez and 1.161s ahead of Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa.
Marc Marquez managed to get his Repsol Honda RC213V close to the front with the Championship leader setting a best time of 1m 50.519s while Danilo Petrucci was also adapting well to the ultra slick track on his Octo IodaRacing Team machine and sits in 5th after setting a best lap of 1m 50.641s in front of the home fans. Pol Espargaro lies in sixth after day one with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider just .120s off Petrucci’s pace in the wet.
Sitting in 7th place is LCR Honda rider Stefan Bradl with a 1m 50.848s lap time and the German rider the final one in the 1m 50s bracket with Jorge Lorenzo the next rider along in 8th but the Movistar Yamaha could only manage a best time of 1m 51.541s with Andrea Iannone in 9th on the Pramac Racing Ducati and .135s ahead of Movistar Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi.
Multiple crashes on day one
The first 45-minute free practice session saw multiple crashes in the opening laps, including a crash for Dovizioso, as the riders tested the grip limits at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. This afternoon was no different as the slippery conditions continued to play havoc at the notoriously tricky and fast circuit on the Rimini coast. The Italian crowds were surely entertained with many low-side crashes coming this afternoon including Cal Crutchlow who finished the day in 11th for the Ducati Team while Bradley Smith had a touch day and sits in 18th for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team.
