CHECA READY FOR RACE RETURN AT BRNO
Brno, 16 August: Spanish rider Carlos Checa is eager to return to racing in the Czech Republic Grand Prix this weekend after a refreshing summer break of mountain climbing in Italy. Checa will be back on a Honda RC212V for the race at the 5.4 km Brno Circuit after his recent participation in the Suzuka 8 Hours, riding a HRC Honda CBR 1000RR.
Although the Suzuka race, one week after the US Grand Prix, shortened Checa's vacation time, he enjoyed the experience. With team mate Tady Okada, Checa qualified on pole position and then finished second in the race. He is now fit and eager to return to MotoGP action for round 12 of 18 in the MotoGP world championship.
Meanwhile Irishman Eugene Laverty enjoyed a longer summer holiday because the 250cc class did not race in America, but he too is ready to go racing at the classic Brno circuit.
CHECA: "I really enjoyed my experience at the Suzuka 8 Hours and I am very happy about the result. I took some vacation in Spain with friends and then to Italy for mountain climbing, one of my favourite sports, but now it's time to face the rest of the season. I like the Brno circuit, it's very fast track, and I'm looking forward to HRC supporting us with some new exhaust pipes and updated engine specification. Marco Melandri and some other Honda riders have already tried these changes with positive results. And also with Michelin we have to work very hard on the tyres because Bridgestone are very competitive now."
LAVERTY: "Holidays are great but I can't wait to go back racing, especially at a track that is as challenging as Brno, with all the fast uphill and downhill sections, it should suit my style. I'm aiming some strong results over the finals even races."
