The seventh race of the season 2010 will take place the coming weekend in Montmelo, near Barcelona in Spain and it is the last of three successive races. Montmelo is located about half an hour from the Catalan Metropolis Barcelona and it is the home of Dorna Sports, the license holder and organisation for the MotoGP world championship. Usually the weather is extremely hot at the side of the Mediterranean Sea and riders and teams have to use the two practice days to find the best settings for the bike and to choose the right tyres for the Gran Premi de Catalunya.
Also this Grand Prix the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team has to contest without their rider Hiroshi Aoyama. Aoyama injured himself during a crash in the Warm up for the British Grand Prix two weeks ago and he broke his T12 vertebra. He is currently recovering at home in Barcelona where the injury has to heal hopefully quickly. At the last Grand Prix in hollandaise Assen the 28 years old has been replaces by his compatriot Kousuke Akiyoshi, who is also the official Honda Test rider. The 35 years old will ride the Honda RC212V once again in Barcelona. The team is still looking for a substitute for Aoyama from Sachsenring on.
"Assen was a complete new track for me, but I liked it. Barcelona I know, I have been there before, but that was quite a while ago. I heard that also the test rider of Yamaha will take part in the race and I look forward to the battle with him. I hope I will win it."
Daniel M. Epp, Team Manager:
"Kousuke will, as he already did in Assen, ride Hiro's bike for us in Barcelona again. Also the Yamaha Test rider will be present there to substitute the injured Rossi and I am looking forward to the battle between the two test riders. Of course I hope Honda will win. For the races upon Sachsenring we are still looking for a replacement. We have a few options, but we are not decided yet. Until Hiro is back with us we need a stable solution.
The race weekend of the Gran Premi de Catalunya will start on 2nd of July with the first free practice of the 125cc class and finishes with the MotoGP race on 4th of July.
