Akiyoshi gets to grips with the Honda RC212V

The first free practice of the Gran Premi de Catalunya occurred today under the burning sun and incredible heat at the "Circuit de Catalunya" near Barcelona in Spain. Kousuke Akiyoshi, der Honda test rider, who was replacing the injured Hiroshi Aoyama in Assen and once again in Barcelona, used the day to set up the Honda RC212V to his needs. Many of the settings used satisfied the 35 years old Japanese already, the only problem he still has with the engine breaking. Akiyoshi won the first battle with the Japanese replacement rider Wataru Yoshikawa, who is replacing the injured Valentino Rossi in Barcelona, by two tenth.

Kousuke Akiyoshi, 16 -- 1'47.757:
"We have changed a couple of settings today. Mainly we worked on the chassis and I have a much better feeling now. At the moment I still have problems with the engine breaking and acceleration, but we will work on that tomorrow. The first battle against my compatriot I won and this gives me good motivation for the rest of the weekend."

Daniel Epp, Team Manager:
"The result shows once again the very high level of the MotoGP class. Akiyoshi was two tenth faster than the Yamaha Test rider Yoshikawa, who is replacing the injured Valentino Rossi this weekend and I am happy about this result. The rest we will see over the weekend."
