The factory Yamaha rider, running medium tyres front and rear, was the only man to lap consistently in the low 1m56s, setting a best time of 1m56.048s on his flying lap - just over a second away from his lap-record busting pole time from Saturday.

Andrea Iannone proved Lorenzo's closest challenger with a late effort of 1m56.419s, with Marc Marquez, who starts second on the grid, third with a best time of 1m56.543s. The reigning champion circulated in the mid-to-high 1m56s for the majority of the session, running the harder rear tyre.

Valentino Rossi was next in fourth, the Italian switching from medium to hard rear mid-session, 0.545s adrift of teammate Lorenzo and 0.011s quicker than Tech 3 Yamaha's Bradley Smith in fifth.

After a subdued Saturday, Honda's Dani Pedrosa was closer to the pace in sixth place, ahead of the second Tech 3 bike of Pol Espargaro and Suzuki's Maverick Vinales.

Yonny Hernandez (Pramac Ducati) and Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) completed the top 10 in a virtually incident-free session.
