Moto GP 250cc.: Historical victory of Sebastián Porto.

There are no words to define what experimented Sebastián Porto when he crossed the final line in the Nelson Piquet circuit of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Surely it must be something similar to the happiness after a job well done like he did with his Yamaha of the Sprinta Petronas Team. This first victory for Porto in the Continental Circus is motive of gladness and pride for him and for all around Argentina.

The results in the second half of the season, Sebastián created the illusion in every Argentinian that the victory was very close. It was just a matter of time for Porto to get his first win. In Donnington Porto took the leadership in the start but a mechanic problem make him to quit. In Sachsenring he finished third and get with this result his first podium in 100 races in 250cc. After Germany, he finished second in Brno and third in Estoril, two weeks ago. In Brazil the qualify session of Thursday showed him fourth and on Friday he lost his second pole position in the last minute in hands of Randy De Puniet with Aprilia.

On Saturday the rain appeared like unexpected protagonist, also like it happened in Portugal, where the weather complicated Porto. But in this opportunity the Argentinian took the leadership in the start and never left it until the chequered flag.

¨The race was just fantastic and hard. I tried to push since the beginning, when the track was half dry, to make the maximum difference possible against the rest and then I just keep the line to finish in first position. I`m very happy to win near Argentina and I want to congratulate my team and Yamaha¨, said the Sebastián in the press conference.

In the first lap the driver of the Yamaha Sprinta team already has a difference of 3 seconds over Battaini, Melandri, Elías and Rolfo. With the passing of the laps the distance was of nine seconds.

The arrival of the rain in the eleventh lap, far away of represent some complication for Sebastián, was the confirmation of that his consecration at world level finally came.

All the competitors started with wet tyres due that before the beginning of the Grand Prix the rain complicate the circuit.

This time the Yamaha got perfectly adapted to the situation and Porto could take a distance of 14 seconds against his persecutors.

¨That made that the floor was very difficult. I tried to keep the difference and the bike, like the tyres, finished the competition in great conditions. The team did a fantastic work¨ recognised Porto.

With this result Porto keep fourth in the championship with 135 points, 25 less the Italian Roberto Rolfo, second in the race and third in the championship, when it rest just four to finish the season.

In the fight for the tournament, Marco Melandri (Aprilia) showed that he won when he doesn`t win. The Italian, who finished fourth and is the first time that he is not in the podium, took advantage of the mistake of ¨Fonsi¨ Nieto and has a difference of 45 points with the Spanish. The podium was completed in third place by Franco Battaini who is sixth with 104.
