Riders, spectators and media from around the world are descending toward Phillip Island with anticipation building in the lead-up to the 2008 Australian MotoGP.

Many fans have made an early entry into the circuit, hoping to catch a glimpse of the MotoGP action over the course of the weekend.

2008 World Champion Valentino Rossi - as well as Australians Casey Stoner and Chris Vermeulen - are three of the riders who will be on show today, and all are confident of performing well in Sunday's race.

Despite a variable weather forecast for the next three days, stunning blue skies have greeted competitors with the 125cc Riders set to kick off proceedings with a practice session at 9:00am today.

Australia will be fielding five Wildcards in the 125cc event - Blake Leigh-Smith, Brad Gross, Rhys Moller, Jed Metcher and Jake Horne - all of whom will be hopeful of a good showing amongst a world-class field led by Championship leader Mike Di Meglio.

The MotoGP riders are next on display at 10:00am, followed by the 250cc riders, while later this afternoon the first qualifying sessions will be held for both the 125cc and 250cc classes.

The support classes will entertain the crowds with races between 4:00pm and 6:00pm today, including the QBE Australian Superbikes, Denso Australian Supersport, Glen Cameron Australian Historics and the Australian Juniors Demonstration.

Motorcycling Australia has launched its dedicated 2008 Australian MotoGP website, bringing you all the latest news, results, photos and audio from Phillip Island right throughout the course of the event.

All the action from Phillip Island will be comprehensively covered at www.ma.org.au/motogp.
