Marc Marquez recovered from a low-side crash to top the second practice session for the GP of the Americas, stretching his advantage over the field to seven tenths of a second.
Continuing where he left off in Friday's opening session, Marquez took over atop the timesheets during the second runs, becoming the first rider to beat his own earlier benchmark on a 2m04.560s.
The Spaniard was set to improve on that benchmark by some six tenths when he lost the front end of his factory Honda at the final corner, ending up in the gravel.
However, he was able to pick up the stricken RC213V, cross the circuit and wheel it back to his pit box moments later, and was back on track setting the pace late in the session.
He just fell short of dipping below the 2m04s with a best time of 2m04.034s with six minutes left on the clock, enough to top the session by 0.706s from Ducati's Andrea Iannone.
Third place went to an improved Suzuki of Maverick Vinales, who lapped 0.801s off the pace of Marquez, while the second works Honda of Dani Pedrosa went from 10th in FP1 to a more encouraging fourth just 0.064s further back.
Completing the top half-dozen were the factory Yamahas of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, the only other riders to lap within a second of Marquez, both enjoying stints at the top of the times early on before Marquez hit his stride.
Loris Baz continued Avintia Ducati's impressive showing by finishing seventh, ahead of the Ducatis of Scott Redding and Andrea Dovizioso, while Cal Crutchlow bagged the final top 10 placing for LCR Honda.
Besides Marquez, the only other crashers were Eugene Laverty (Aspar Ducati), who suffered a dramatic fall at Turn 2 late on, and Suzuki's Aleix Espargaro after the chequered flag.
Jack Miller, who escaped major injury in his earlier FP1 crash, appeared to struggle for pace, completing only eight laps and finishing the second session down in 20th, 2.7s off the pace.
