It was a day of discovery for the MotoGP riders at Motorland. Unlike their 125cc and Moto2 counterparts, who tested here in July, the premier-class riders took to the circuit for the first time in this morning's extra free practice session, which took place in dry conditions. In the afternoon a heavy rain shower meant that nobody was able to improve on their lap times or dislodge Dani Pedrosa from the top of the time sheets.

Paginas Amarillas Aspar rider Hector Barbera took to the Motorland circuit like a duck to water, almost literally in the afternoon. The Spaniard lapped ninth fastest on the wet track but his pace in the dry morning session, when he clocked a 1'51.792 with his penultimate lap, leaves him seventh fastest overnight with high hopes of improvements tomorrow.

7th Hector Barbera 1.51.792 (36 laps):

"The important thing today was to find my reference points and get a feel for the track. I really enjoyed it and felt comfortable from the first lap. We have hardly touched the setting from Misano. It was important that we had the extra session today because we had one dry and one wet, which enabled us to find our reference points in both conditions. I really enjoyed riding in the wet and whatever the weather tomorrow we have a clear idea which way we're going. We'll make a couple of small changes to try to improve but nothing too major that could throw us off course. It is a fun track with a lot of fast corners where you have to pay attention and I love the last turn into the straight."
