LORENZO SAVADORI: UNLUCKY AT MISANO FOR THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
An unlucky Sunday for Lorenzo Savadori on August 31st at Misano during the "Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini". The young rider from Cesena, Italy, that participated as a wild card in the twelfth round of the 125cc Road Racing World Championship, was forced to retire himself at the thirteenth lap (on 23 total laps) after the breaking of the chain on his 125GP Aprilia. A real pity as the rider of the Team RCGM was actually in eighteenth position, fighting with other riders that ended the race at the edge of the points area. If he wasn't stopped not so much after half the race, perhaps he could even have conquered his first points in the World Championship.
Anyway, Lorenzo Savadori -currently the leader of the 125GP Road Racing Italian Championship-, showed to be able to hold his own between the expert riders of the World Championship, obtaining a great fifteenth time in the second session of free practice on Saturday, at only 1.4 second of the new record of the track in the category. A laptime that would have meant a good fifteenth place on the grid, but that he didn't repeated during the official practice in the afternoon, actually qualifying himself at the twenty-third place on 39 total riders.
The excellent warm-up on Sunday morning was really hopeful, but during the race, a start that wasn't one of the best made him move backwards at the end of the group ; anyway with big determination he managed to get back many positions and catch up the group that ended the race right at the edge of the points area. Lorenzo was behaving really well and the breaking of his bike's chain has been an unlucky event that really wasn't needed.
Next race is scheduled on September 21st at Albacete for a round of the Spanish Championship, one week before the fifth and last but one race of the 125GP Road Racing Italian Championship, that will be once again at Misano.
Lorenzo Savadori: "I'm very disappointed, ending this race was something really important. The practice on Saturday morning and the warm-up had been positive and then, during the race, even if I didn't make a good start, I got back many positions and there was the possibility to end in the points area. It will be for next time, now I will concentrate myself on the next race in Spain and on the Italian Championship where I'm currently the leader".
