VENTURA RACEWAY ANNOUNCES 2007 SCHEDULE
OXNARD, Calif. (Jan. 14, 2007) -- Ventura Raceway announced its 2008 racing schedule today, an ambitious slate including 31 dates. The track will host races for 14 divisions and bring six sanctioning bodies to Seaside Park.
Raceway promoter Jim Naylor said the schedule would bring more racing diversity to the facility than it has ever had in the past.
"We'll have age groups ranging from little kids to senior citizens in race cars this season," Naylor said. "We'll have some of the best sprint car drivers in the country here and we'll have nearly every other kind of car that races on dirt. We'll even have motorcycles."
The season opener is scheduled for March 8.
In a signature event, the Raceway will host the final event of the Bandit-VRA Grand Slam Challenge for sprint cars on August 23rd. The series competes on three other tracks and pits the drivers from the tracks against each other in a championship platform.
The United States Auto Club's Sprint Cars, Midgets and Ford Focus Midgets will visit the track a combined 14 nights. USAC's popular CRA Sprint Car Series will race three times at Ventura.
The crowd pleasing Demolition Derby, held each year during the Ventura County Fair, returns this year along with a VRA event twice during the Fair.
The Ventura Racing Association's seven divisions will make up the majority of the 2008 slate. Those divisions include the track's innovative youth racing divisions, which attracted 61 drivers between the ages of five and 16 in 2007.
"We have entire families racing here," Naylor said. "We have kids, parents and grandparents. Our track has become a family destination."
